Wearing Waders

When a drought threatened to destroy a season of crops, a rural church with many farmers called for an emergency prayer meeting. Dozens of farmers showed up all wearing their overalls except one farmer who wore waders. If we believe God is going to answer our prayer for rain, why not dress for the miracle? And yes, everyone else walked home soaking wet that night.

The Lord told Joshua, “Today I will begin to make you a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites. They will know that I am with you, just as I was with Moses. Give this command to the priests who carry the Ark of the Covenant: ‘When you reach the banks of the Jordan River, take a few steps into the river and stop there.’” — Joshua 3:7-8

When the Israelites were on the verge of entering the Promised Land, God commanded the priests to step into the river. They needed to demonstrate their faith and belief in His promise before the water was rolled back. So often I want God to go first but I’m finding that doesn’t require any faith at all. If the priests hadn’t obeyed and stepped into the river they may be standing on the shores still today. At times I find myself waiting on God to part the river first when perhaps Jesus is waiting on me to get my feet wet or waders on.

This has really challenged me, so lately, I have been putting on my prayer waders;

  • Claiming four new business coaching clients per month  Check
  • Believing God for greater financial provision so we can bless others  Done
  • Believing God has a house with land in a specific school district that we can purchase without a mortgage  Child’s play
  • Ministry opportunities for my time, talent, and treasure  No problem

I wonder how many times God doesn’t answer our prayers or doesn’t cause or allow something to happen in our lives because He is simply waiting for us to take the first step of faith? What is it that you dream of doing or being for God? Don’t just pray about it but act on it! God is honored when we act as if He is going to answer our prayers. It’s time to put on your waders.
