Purpose in the Unlikely

Throughout the Bible we see how God chooses the unqualified to be His instruments of transformation. They are often those who think they are not good at something and so they take themselves out of doing the task.

  • Moses stuttered yet God used this poor communicator to lead his people out of slavery.
  • Noah was not a builder, heck he had never felt rain, yet God used him to build a large boat.
  • Gideon was hiding when an angel of the Lord appeared to tell him that he would be the one to save Israel.
  • Jesus choose 12 non-bible theologeans and not the Pharisees to launch a ministry that lives on today.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” — 2 Corinthians 9:9-10

God loves to use weak people. The important thing is not whether or not we have weaknesses, but what we do with them. If we deny, excuse or hide them, we prevent God from doing what He desires in and through us. As he wants to use our strengths for His glory, so too He wants to use our weaknesses. Websters defines weakness as “a quality or feature regarded as a disadvantage or fault”.  As I grow closer to Christ, I’m finding the things I think I am weak in are the things made of purpose. These things make me stronger and provide ministry to others;

  • I help empower women because I once was a beaten wife
  • I flunked high school art class yet today I am a professional photographer.
  • I’m good with money today because I was once bankrupt
  • I encourage teens to stay away from drugs because I once was a drug dealer

When we come clean or expose ourselves to God and others, Jesus often uses these “deficiencies” to build others up and ultimately you as well. We think our deficiencies stunt our growth when actually they excelerate it.

Today, I want to boldly encourage someone reading this to leverage their weakness. Flip the script in your mind and let God use your weaknesses for His glory by having the courage to expose and be vulnerable with them. And it’s there, in this vulnerable state, that you come face-to-face with His game changing power. Someone else needs your weakness today!

What weakness are you hiding that Jesus is saying release to me?
