Everyone’s Looking for You!

When my youngest daughter Linsey was about eight years old she and a friend wandered from our campsite. When we realized it, our family and another went looking for them. We split up into 4 teams of 2-3; some took cars to cover roads, some took bikes to cover paths, and others headed out on foot thru the woods. After 20-30mins of frantically searching, each pair circled back to our campsite where we found the girls sitting playing oblivious to the intense search around them. They had simply wandered into the woods to play.

“Simon and his companions went searching for him. They found him and said, “Everyone’s looking for you!” — Mark 1: 35-37

Jesus just got done healing Simon’s mother-in-law and word was quickly spreading. In fact, the whole city was lined up at his door waiting to be the next one healed and then Jesus decides to wander off. How he slipped out I’m not sure but, at some point when the disciples realized he was not with them, they went looking for him. They eventually found Jesus in the woods. He wanted time alone to pray.

People close to Jesus knew they did not have what He had. In fact, they had never seen anything like this guy. Demons were afraid of him, he healed through his spoken words, and he controlled evil-spirits. He brought people joy, peace, love and hope. He was a game-changer.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

This Christmas, has Jesus slipped from your midst? Is your focus on possessions, power, money and titles and not on Him? Are you out looking for Jesus like the disciples were?  May the birth of Christ be made fresh this season.
